Military kid says, "My mom trusts me more."

"Having my dad gone to Iraq is lousy. Getting to do more stuff all on my own is great. With my dad gone, my mom and I have worked out this deal. I make popcorn by myself after school. I'm really careful when I open the bag. I walk with my sister to the bus without mom tagging along. I pick out all my own clothes in the morning. I had to go back and change one day because it was cold outside. It's really neat that my mom trusts me more."

Tip:

Notice all the things you can do. Give yourself one compliment every day. Make sure it's really true. Keep a list so you can show it to your parent when they get home.
